JOA Surveys LLC, is honored to be awarded a 2.1 million dollar contract with a period of performance through September 2021 for the measurement of tidal data in support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) VDatum program. JOA will measure tide data along the Gulf of Mexico coast of Texas, Louisiana, and Florida, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. JOA will perform quality reconnaissance of prospective measurement locations, installation of water level management systems, unscheduled and emergency repair, and time effective removal of instrumentation and equipment.
The Vertical Datum Transformation tool, or VDatum program, is a collective effort of NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey (NGS), Office of Coast Survey (OCS), and Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) that aims to create a universal height transformation tool giving all users the ability to combine nearly any geospatial data in a seamless vertical height system. VDatum will enable government, industry, or private users to combine and share geospatial data collected in a myriad of different height reference systems.
JOA is an Alaskan based surveying company and partners Nathan Wardwell, Mike Zieserl, and Erik Oppegard have over 65 years of experience performing water level measurement tasks. JOA understands the importance of water level measurements for the improvement of mapping, nautical charts, and determining tidal boundary locations. JOA is dedicated to supporting NOAA’s efforts to improve and validate the VDatum models that relate tidal datums to orthometric and ellipsoid surfaces.
